Morena candidates await Sonora governorship selection

Candidates vying for the Morena party nomination for the 2027 Sonora governorship are awaiting a decision from the national leadership in Mexico City. The aspirants have reported receiving conflicting signals regarding the survey results that will determine the party’s candidate.

During a recent event for President Claudia Sheinbaum’s government report in the state, candidates attempted to project a sense of unity despite the internal uncertainty. Among the prominent figures is Senator Lorenia Valles, who emphasized the need for patience and calm while awaiting the official announcement.

While there are six total candidates registered for the position—four from Morena, one from PVEM, and one from PT—the primary focus remains on the internal Morena selection process. Several of these candidates have previously worked under Governor Alfonso Durazo.
