Morena coalition shows split in Quintana Roo candidate registrations

The registration of candidates for the upcoming Quintana Roo elections has revealed the first explicit fissure within Mexico's 4T coalition. None of the five aspirants were listed by all three parties that form the alliance – Morena, the Labor Party (PT) and the Green Party (PVEM).

Rafael Marín was registered as a candidate of Morena and PT, but did not receive the Green Party's endorsement. Eugenio Segura and Ana Patricia Peralta were registered solely by Morena, lacking both Green and PT backing. The Greens attempted an independent “plan C” with a local legislator, but their effort fell short of forming a broader alliance and they did not join Marín's candidacy.

Political observers note that this internal disagreement signals a growing autonomy of the Green Party and mirrors similar alliance strains recently reported in the states of Colima and San Luis Potosí. The split may affect the coalition’s cohesion ahead of the slated elections in 2027 and 2030.
