Morena organizes internal structures for 2027 elections

The Morena party is actively structuring its political organization ahead of the 2027 elections in Mexico. National leader Ariadna Montiel Reyes reported a membership of approximately 12 million, despite the National Electoral Institute (INE) validating 11.6 million members. To maintain control, the party has established a mechanism to evaluate the background of external profiles seeking to join the movement.

Internal selection processes for state and municipal coordinators are underway across various regions, including Colima, Tamaulipas, Jalisco, Baja California Sur, and San Luis Potosí. While some states have already announced coordinators, others face delays or internal competition. In Jalisco, leadership disputes are emerging as various figures vie for control of Guadalajara. In Baja California Sur, the party is implementing an ‘operation scar’ strategy to reintegrate losing candidates into territorial work.

In Mexico City, Paulo García González has been appointed to coordinate electoral tasks to convert social support into electoral victories. Meanwhile, legislative leader Ricardo Monreal has called for clearer regulations regarding pre-campaigns to prevent parties from using intermediate figures to bypass electoral laws. Additionally, the party has paused calls for federal deputy nominations until state-level coordinations are finalized.
