Morena Solidifies Lead Ahead of Mexico's 2027 Elections

President Claudia Sheinbaum enjoys a 71% approval rating, and a De las Heras Demoscopia poll shows 47% of Mexicans identify with the ruling Morena party, far ahead of the PRI (11%), PAN (9%) and other opposition groups. The party is poised to retain its dominance in upcoming 2027 elections.

In Veracruz, Governor Rocío Nahle is assembling a slate of candidates to preserve Morena's control of the state's Congress and its 19 federal deputy seats, which represent about 7% of the national lower house. Potential nominees mentioned include legislator Bertha Ahued for a federal district, Congress president Naomi Santos, deputy Dorheny García and Secretary of Government Ricardo Ahued. Opposition parties such as the PRI, PAN and Movimiento Ciudadano are trailing, while the PT risks losing registration in Coahuila.

Morena is also expected to win the Chihuahua governorship and maintain most municipalities in the State of Mexico, reinforcing its nationwide political advantage as the 2027 electoral cycle approaches.
