Morena officials request leave to run for 2027 state coordination posts in Zacatecas and Sinaloa

Federal deputy Ulises Mejía Haro and legislator Julia Olguín Serna announced they will take leave from their public duties to compete in Morena’s internal process that will select the head of the State Coordination of Defense of the Transformation in Zacatecas, a position viewed as a stepping‑stone to the 2027 gubernatorial race. Their licenses become effective on 21 June, and the registration of candidates will take place on 27 June in Mexico City. Other aspirants include Senator Verónica Robles Díaz, federal deputy Geovanna Bañuelos and Senator Carlos Puente Salas.

Senator Imelda Castro, who also holds a leave of absence, said the internal Morena contest for the equivalent coordination role in Sinaloa is being conducted on a “level playing field.” She praised the national party leadership, the election commission, and the survey commission for overseeing the process according to the party’s rules, and noted that the outcome could determine the party’s candidate for the 2027 Sinaloa governorship.
