Morena opens registration for 2027 gubernatorial candidates, Chihuahua among first states
Mexico’s ruling Morena party started the registration of aspirants for the 17 governorships up for election in 2027. The process began on Monday at the World Trade Center in Mexico City, with online registration running from June 22‑27 and in‑person sign‑ups. Chihuahua’s registration is scheduled for Tuesday, June 23, where two confirmed profiles – Ciudad Juárez mayor Cruz Pérez Cuéllar and Senator Andrea Chávez Treviño – are expected to compete for the state coordination, a stepping stone to the gubernatorial candidacy.
State delegate Mayra Chávez Jiménez said she will wait for the official call‑for‑applications (convocatoria) for the internal Morena process to select the mayoral candidate for Juárez. She also noted the broader timeline: August 3 for federal district registrations, September 21 for municipal coordinations, and November 8 for local districts. The same briefing announced the opening of registration for the senior citizens and women’s welfare pensions, which will run through June 28.
