Mexico's ruling coalition faces internal tensions ahead of 2027 elections

Internal tensions are rising within Mexico’s ruling coalition, composed of Morena, the Green Party (PVEM), and the Labor Party (PT), as political actors begin positioning themselves for the 2027 elections.

Raúl Bolaños-Cacho, President of the Chamber of Deputies Board, addressed friction regarding the distribution of state coordinations. He emphasized that while no individual is indispensable, the coalition members are necessary for maintaining political progress. He urged the PT and other members excluded from certain roles to respect the results, which were determined by surveys, and to work in unity.

Simultaneously, the Green Party faces scrutiny regarding its political identity and autonomy. While remaining a key ally to Morena, the party is reportedly seeking more independence and demanding its own candidacies in various states. Historical criticisms of the party's leadership and past legal sanctions by the INE also persist in the political discourse.

Furthermore, reports indicate growing internal conflict within Morena, characterized by ‘friendly fire’ on social media. Aspirants for local and federal positions are reportedly engaging in aggressive digital campaigns and spreading conflicting polls to undermine rivals within the same party.
