Morena registers 277 gubernatorial hopefuls for 2027 elections

A total of 277 candidates have registered with Mexico's Morena party to seek nominations for the 17 governorships slated for the 2027 election cycle. Of these, 123 registrations were made in person and the candidates' names were made public, while 154 were submitted online and remain undisclosed by the party leadership. Guerrero recorded the highest number of in‑person registrations (16) and Campeche the lowest (two).

Party officials say municipal coordinators will play a key role in tightening the candidate‑selection process. Cirilo Facundo Hernández, a state adviser from Toluca, stressed that surveys must assess not only popularity but also officials' performance on public works, services and security, arguing that a rigorous vetting of candidates will improve Morena's prospects in the 2027 polls.
