CNDH condemns Puebla deputies Nayeli Salvatori and Grace Palomares for ageist remarks
On 6 August 2026 the Comisión Nacional de los Derechos Humanos (CNDH) issued pronouncement DGDDH/013/2026 condemning Puebla state deputies Nayeli Salvatori Bojalil and Grace Palomares Ramírez for age‑ist comments that described older adults as “smelling like a trunk” and “rotting”. The CNDH classified the statements as hate speech, ageism and a violation of human rights, and called on the Puebla Congress to adopt strict ethical codes to prevent similar discriminatory discourse.
Morena’s internal disciplinary body, the Comisión Nacional de Honestidad y Justicia (CNHJ), opened an investigation into the deputies. If the CNHJ decides to suspend or expel them under article 132 of the party’s internal regulations, the legislators could be barred from running as Morena candidates in the 2027 elections. The controversy has sparked broader debate about the standards of conduct expected from public officials in Mexico.
