Morena, PT and PVEM open joint registration for 2027 gubernatorial candidates

Morena, the Labour Party (PT) and the Ecologist Green Party of Mexico (PVEM) announced that the internal selection process for the 2027 gubernatorial races will begin on 22 June and run through 27 June. Registrations will be taken at the World Trade Center in Mexico City, with each state assigned a specific day. The parties will first choose "Coordinators of State Defense of the Transformation", who will later become the de facto candidates for the 17 governorships up for renewal. Candidates must resign from any public office and will be evaluated through citizen surveys, the mechanism Morena has used in prior internal contests.

The coalition, led by Morena’s national leader Ariadna Montiel, PT’s Alberto Anaya and PVEM’s Karen Castrejón, intends to run together in 16 of the 17 states. Senator Jasmine Bugarín (PVEM) confirmed that the alliance will cover all states except San Luis Potosí, where a separate arrangement may be decided later. The parties also reiterated internal rules prohibiting nepotism and the use of public resources for campaigning.

The process is presented as a territorial‑building phase rather than a formal electoral campaign, with the goal of strengthening the parties’ grassroots presence ahead of the 2027 elections.
