Morne Morkel outlines India's ODI World Cup preparation strategy
India bowling coach Morne Morkel has emphasized that preparation for the 2027 Men’s ODI World Cup must begin immediately, starting with the upcoming three-match ODI series against the West Indies. Morkel urged players to embrace high-pressure situations now rather than waiting for the tournament to step up their performance.
Morkel noted that the team management has held meetings to establish high benchmarks and foundational building blocks for the 50-over format. He challenged the bowling unit to proactively seek pressure through their skills and fielding.
Additionally, Morkel highlighted the importance of managing young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy. Following a successful return from a quadriceps injury in recent T20Is, Reddy has been included in the ODI series against the West Indies to gain crucial game time. Morkel stated that while Reddy possesses the talent to excel with bat, ball, and in the field, the coaching staff aims to provide him with a consistent, simple role to help him grow into a reliable all-rounder.
