The incident required approximately 20 minutes of medical attention involving an ice pack and plaster. Although Gill did not finish the session and appeared to be in significant discomfort, he was later seen in good spirits with teammates.

As the team prepares for the series opener, weather forecasts for Greenfield International Stadium suggest a high chance of rain and thundershowers. The squad is also managing fitness concerns regarding Hardik Pandya and Harshit Rana, who remain sidelined.

Bowling coach Morne Morkel has reiterated that preparation for the 2027 Men’s ODI World Cup must begin immediately. Morkel urged the bowling unit to proactively seek pressure through skill and fielding, noting that management is establishing foundational building blocks for the 50-over format. Morkel also highlighted the importance of managing young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, who has been included in the ODI series to gain game time following a return from a quadriceps injury.
