Morocco‑France Joint Operation Seizes 2.7 t of Illicit Drugs
On 24 May 2026, a coordinated security operation between Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security and the French research unit of the National Gendarmerie in Lille dismantled an international drug‑trafficking network operating between the two countries. The raid, carried out at the port of Sète in southern France, resulted in the seizure of 2 692 kg of cannabis resin – roughly 2.7 tonnes – and the arrest of two suspects, including the driver of the vehicle that delivered the shipment. French authorities also confiscated cash worth about €34 000 and a second vehicle linked to the network. The investigation, which began in early April 2026, was supported by units from northern and Haut‑Rhin regions, as well as the elite GIGN intervention group. The operation underscores the deepening intelligence cooperation between Morocco and France in combating trans‑national organised crime beyond counter‑terrorism efforts.
