Moroccan fishing landings show mixed results at Laayoune and Dakhla ports
Data from the National Fisheries Office reveals divergent trends in coastal and traditional fishing landings at major Moroccan ports through July 2026.
At Laayoune Port, landings saw a significant increase of 56% by weight, reaching 141,780 tons, with a market value rising 21% to 1.10 billion dirhams. This growth was driven largely by pelagic fish, which saw an 86% increase in volume. However, white fish landings at the same port declined by 42%.
In contrast, Dakhla Port experienced a sharp downturn, with landings dropping 70% to 16,912 tons compared to the previous year. The financial value of these landings also fell by 46%, totaling over 283.74 million dirhams. Pelagic fish landings in Dakhla saw a substantial 80% decrease.
On a national level in Morocco, total coastal and traditional fishing landings reached 551,547 tons, representing a 5% increase compared to the same period last year. The total market value for these national landings rose by 2% to exceed 6.28 billion dirhams.
