Morocco fishing sector generates 6.28 billion dirhams through July
Morocco’s coastal and artisanal fishing sector saw growth through July 2026, with marketed products totaling over 6.28 billion dirhams, a 2 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025. According to the National Fisheries Office (ONP), the total volume of products landed reached 551,547 tons, marking a 5 percent year-on-year increase.
Performance varied significantly by region and species. Atlantic ports demonstrated dominance, with landings rising 5 percent in weight and value increasing by 3 percent to nearly 5.85 billion dirhams. In contrast, Mediterranean ports saw an 8 percent increase in volume but a 10 percent decline in value, totaling approximately 427.4 million dirhams.
Specific port data shows diverse trends: Tarfaya Port reported a 42 percent increase in landings, while Tangier Port saw a 98 percent surge. Conversely, Nador Port experienced an 11 percent decrease in landings. Species-wise, pelagic fish and cephalopods saw volume gains, while white fish and shellfish experienced declines in value.
