Moroccan healthcare unions warn of sector tension over shortages and promotion delays

Healthcare workers in Morocco are expressing growing discontent due to employment shortages and administrative delays. The Independent Union of Nurses and Health Technicians has condemned security interventions and arrests following protests by nursing students and graduates in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region. The union is calling for the immediate hiring of approximately 2,700 graduates to address a national deficit of over 64,000 nurses.

Simultaneously, the Independent Union of Administrative, Technical, and Health Assistant Staff has warned of increasing tension within the sector. The union is demanding the immediate release of promotion results for the years 2024 and 2025 and the settlement of related financial entitlements. They argue that these delays undermine ongoing health system reforms and professional stability during the transition to territorial health groups.
