Moroccan Minister outlines anti-corruption and social support measures

Mohamed Nabil Benabdallah, Minister of National Education and Secretary-General of the Party of Progress and Socialism, has detailed several upcoming government initiatives aimed at combating corruption and improving social welfare in Morocco.

Regarding governance, Benabdallah stated that the government intends to criminalize conflicts of interest and rent-seeking behaviors. Proposed measures include completing the national integrity system, enforcing mandatory asset declarations, and addressing irregularities in public procurement to restore trust in political institutions.

On the economic front, the minister highlighted plans to monitor and reduce the prices of essential goods, such as meat and other food items, to alleviate the cost-of-living pressures on Moroccan families. Additionally, the government aims to gradually increase direct social support from 500 to 1,000 dirhams and review widow pensions to allow beneficiaries to receive 100 percent of the applicable rate. Tax reforms are also expected to expand exemptions for low-income groups.
