Moroccan parties negotiate new government alliances

Moroccan political parties are actively negotiating the formation of a new government following the September 23 legislative elections. Fatima Zahra Mansouri, the newly appointed head of government, is leading consultations to build a parliamentary majority.

The Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), which secured 97 seats, held an extraordinary national council meeting in Skhirat. During the session, Mansouri was unanimously mandated to continue alliance negotiations. While internal debates occurred regarding potential “red lines” for certain parties, Mansouri officially stated her rejection of a renewed alliance with the National Rally of Independents (RNI).

In response, the RNI has formally expressed its readiness to participate in the upcoming government, delegating party president Mohamed Chouki to manage these negotiations. Meanwhile, the Istiqlal Party has unanimously voted to join the government, with Secretary-General Nizar Baraka authorized to continue consultations to ensure the inclusion of the party's electoral commitments.

The political landscape remains dynamic as parties like the Popular Movement (MP) also hold sessions to evaluate election results and prepare for the next legislative phase.
