Moroccan ports report opposite fish catch trends in 2026
The National Office of Fisheries reported that the Port of Asfi saw a sharp decline in fish landings during the first half of 2026, with total discharges falling 37 % to 14,039 tons and market value dropping 42 % to 95.5 million dirhams compared with the same period in 2025. Surface fish volumes fell 37 % and white‑fish volumes slipped 1 %, while molluscs and crustaceans also recorded steep drops.
In contrast, the Port of Tangier recorded a 92 % surge in fish landings, reaching 4,594 tons, and a 13 % rise in value to 128.49 million dirhams. Surface fish volumes more than doubled (up 109 %), white‑fish volumes rose 131 %, and crustacean discharges increased 8 % despite a price decline. Nationally, total marketed coastal and traditional fish products amounted to 367,184 tons, with overall value up 2 % to about 4.91 billion dirhams.
