Moroccan Public Prosecution launches AI and human rights training in Fez

Hicham El Blawi, the Prosecutor General at the Court of Cassation and President of the Public Prosecution, inaugurated a training session in Fez focused on ‘Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights.’ Organized by the Public Prosecution Presidency with support from the Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance, the program is part of a strategic plan for 2026–2028 to enhance judicial capacity in human rights and digital transformation.

The session addresses the rapid technological shifts in the justice sector. While AI offers significant opportunities to improve criminal investigations, digital data analysis, and the detection of cybercrime and transnational criminal activities, it also presents legal and ethical challenges. Key concerns include the accuracy and interpretability of AI results, the protection of privacy and personal data, and the risks of discrimination or interference with the right to a fair trial.

El Blawi emphasized that AI outputs must not be treated as absolute facts but must undergo critical evaluation and human oversight. He stressed the importance of distinguishing between technical indicators and legally admissible evidence, ensuring that the use of these technologies does not compromise the presumption of innocence, the right to defense, or judicial independence.
