Moroccan transport union seeks aid for drivers hit by Mali crisis
The General Union of International and National Transport Professionals is calling on the Moroccan government to provide urgent assistance to truck drivers affected by security upheavals in Mali.
Several Moroccan trucks were reportedly targeted and set on fire on routes leading to Bamako. The union noted that many drivers have suffered substantial financial losses, as the destruction of their vehicles has stripped them of their primary source of income. While some drivers were previously stranded in Mali, others have managed to return to Morocco but now face difficult social and economic conditions. The union is requesting government measures to help these professionals recover and resume their activities.
