Moroccan transport sector fuel subsidy program

Overview

The Moroccan Ministry of Transport and Logistics has announced a new phase of direct exceptional support for road transport professionals handling both people and goods. This 30-day installment is a response to rising international fuel prices caused by geopolitical tensions. The government intends to provide this financial aid to stabilize transport service prices and prevent the inflation of consumer goods costs. Registration for the support is set to begin on September 24, 2026, through a dedicated electronic platform. Following a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch in Rabat, the government has decided to continue these direct subsidies to mitigate rising energy costs and maintain current public transport pricing for citizens. Officials stated that the level of support will be adjusted in line with fuel price developments. As of late September, the government has announced an increase in these exceptional direct subsidies for both passenger and freight sectors. During a ministerial committee meeting, the Minister of Transport and Logistics confirmed that subsidy amounts will continue to adjust according to fuel price fluctuations. To maintain market stability, the Ministry of Economy and Finance has committed to mobilizing the necessary financial resources to support affected sectors through the end of the year. By September 30, the Ministry of Economy and Finance reported that compensation expenditures reached 13.8 billion dirhams in the first eight months of the year, a 6.2 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025. To address energy security, a ministerial committee confirmed that Morocco maintains a strategic reserve of butane gas and diesel sufficient to cover between 40 and 60 days. Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development Leila Benali stated that the national market is expected to remain regularly supplied with energy, agricultural, and basic goods despite global supply pressures.

Claims

What the coverage asserts, and how many sources carry each claim.

Coverage disagrees

Sources make claims that cannot both be true. CLSTR reports the disagreement; it does not decide who is right.

  • "Compensation expenditures reached 13.8 billion dirhams in the first eight months of the year."

    vs

"Compensation expenditures increased by 6.2 percent compared to the same period in 2025."

The claim regarding a percentage increase compared to 2025 is chronologically impossible if the expenditures being discussed are for the first eight months of a current or past year.
