Morocco accredits 3,006 observers for 2026 elections

The Special Committee for the Accreditation of Election Observations and Observers has approved 3,006 observers to monitor Morocco’s legislative elections scheduled for September 23, 2026. The decision was finalized during meetings held in Rabat on September 4 and 7, chaired by Amna Bouayach, President of the National Human Rights Council.

The approved group includes 783 observers from the National Human Rights Council and 2,023 from Moroccan non-governmental organizations. Additionally, approximately 200 international observers representing 20 international and regional organizations, as well as ten accredited diplomatic bodies, will participate. These international representatives will arrive from Africa, Europe, the Americas, and Asia.

To prepare for the process, the National Human Rights Council will host briefing sessions starting September 20 regarding the legal framework governing Moroccan elections. The accreditation process emphasized geographic and cultural diversity, gender equality, and the inclusion of organizations dedicated to the rights of persons with disabilities.

Furthermore, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe previously sent an initial mission between August 31 and September 2 to observe election preparations, meeting with government sectors, civil society, and media representatives.
