Morocco advances stadium projects for 2030 World Cup

Morocco is advancing its sports infrastructure preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup through major stadium projects in Benslimane and Fez.

In Benslimane, construction of the Hassan II Stadium is entering a detailed equipment phase. Two new contracts totaling approximately 370 million dirhams have been launched to prepare the pitch and install seating. One contract, valued at 92.47 million dirhams, covers the hybrid grass pitch, drainage, and irrigation systems. The second contract, worth 277.50 million dirhams, focuses on installing 114,000 seats designed to meet FIFA and European standards, including hospitality and media sections. The stadium is expected to hold roughly 115,000 spectators.

Simultaneously, the National Agency for Public Equipment has launched an international tender to rehabilitate the Fez Sports Complex at an estimated cost of 2.816 billion dirhams. The project emphasizes sustainability, aiming to reduce energy consumption by at least 30 percent and water usage by 40 percent through rainwater harvesting and smart management systems. The renovation seeks to align with FIFA requirements while providing long-term socio-economic benefits to the city of Fez.
