Morocco allocates 134 billion dirhams for railway development by 2030
Morocco has announced an investment program totaling 134 billion dirhams to modernize its railway infrastructure by 2030. Transport and Logistics Minister Abdessamad Kayouh detailed the plan during the second International Forum for Railway Project Financing in Rabat.
The program aims to expand the national network to meet growing demand and support economic hubs. Key projects include extending the high-speed train line from Kenitra to Marrakech and establishing a rail link to the Nador West Med port. Additionally, the plan involves the acquisition of 168 new trains and the development of regional and urban transit services.
These investments are intended to support long-term economic and logistical activity, as well as preparations for hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup. Funding will be managed through a contractual framework between the state and the National Railways Office, utilizing various mechanisms including green financing.
