Morocco and India partner on AI for national languages

Morocco and India have agreed to establish a joint commission dedicated to languages and digital technologies. The partnership aims to develop artificial intelligence models tailored to Moroccan linguistic realities, specifically targeting the integration of Darija and Amazigh into digital public services.

During meetings in Rabat between Morocco’s Minister Delegate for Digital Transition and Administration Reform, Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, and India’s Minister of State Jitin Prasada, the two nations discussed leveraging India’s experience with multilingual AI. The collaboration will focus on both large and small language models to facilitate citizen interaction with administrative platforms like Idarati.

Morocco seeks to utilize India’s expertise in digital public infrastructure, such as the BHASHINI platform, to make its digital transformation more inclusive. This initiative aligns with Morocco’s efforts to expand the Al Jazari Institute, which supports Arabic, Amazigh, and Darija, into a national network.
