Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska confirmed the deployment of three additional GRS (Reserve and Security Groups) units to reinforce the borders of Ceuta and Melilla as a preventive measure.

The current crisis follows a massive influx in late July, where reports indicate over 70,000 irregular migrants entered the enclave. Authorities estimate that between 3,000 and 3,500 migrants remain in Ceuta without reception resources, and approximately 2,400 minors have been identified. The Spanish government aims to expand reception capacity from 6,000 to between 9,000 and 10,000 places to manage the situation.

Local tensions are rising due to reports of increased crime and social instability. The Andalusia Superior Prosecutor's Office has recorded 35 sexual assault complaints in Ceuta since the July influx. Additionally, migrant minors in refuge centers have alleged physical abuse and mistreatment by security personnel. In response to the heightened alert, the Spanish military has also conducted training maneuvers in the southern peninsula to demonstrate defense capabilities.
