Morocco announces election preparations and proxy voting for 2026

The Moroccan Ministry of Interior has announced administrative preparations for the legislative elections scheduled for Wednesday, September 23, 2026. Starting Monday, August 24, local authorities will begin distributing notifications to voters to inform them of their designated polling station locations, the election date, and voting hours. While these notifications provide helpful information, they are not mandatory for voting; the national identity card remains the only required document for identification.

For Moroccans residing abroad, the Ministry is launching an electronic platform to facilitate voting by proxy, in accordance with Organic Law No. 27.11 regarding the House of Representatives. This online service will be accessible from August 24 until noon on Tuesday, September 22, 2026. Through this platform, citizens living outside the kingdom can appoint a proxy registered on the general electoral list of any municipality within Morocco to vote on their behalf. Once the proxy is established online via the official election websites, the document must be downloaded and sent to the designated proxy via email or post.
