Morocco prepares for 2026 legislative elections
Morocco is preparing for its legislative elections scheduled for September 23, 2026. The candidacy submission period, which began on August 31, is being conducted through a dedicated electronic platform to streamline the process. As of the end of the second day of submissions, 1,003 candidate declarations have been registered across various local and regional constituencies.
To ensure the integrity and transparency of the vote, the Public Prosecution has issued a circular calling for full mobilization of judicial officials. Prosecutor General Hicham Blawi has directed courts to strictly monitor the electoral process and respond decisively to any violations or attempts to manipulate results. New regulations have been introduced to strengthen electoral security, including tougher penalties for crimes involving integrity and morality, and restrictions on the use of social media and artificial intelligence to spread misinformation.
Political parties are actively finalizing their candidate lists in various districts, such as Beni Mellal and Marrakech-Menara, where competition is expected to be intense among established parties and new contenders. The electoral campaign is slated to take place from September 10 to September 22, 2026.
