Morocco increases fuel subsidies for transport sector

The Moroccan government has announced an increase in exceptional direct subsidies for road transport professionals, covering both passenger and goods transport. This decision, aimed at mitigating the impact of rising international fuel prices, was confirmed during a ministerial committee meeting chaired by Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch.

Minister of Transport and Logistics officials stated that the support amount will fluctuate in line with global fuel price developments. To facilitate the process, transport professionals can apply for support through a dedicated electronic platform. The Ministry of Economy and Finance noted that compensation expenditures reached 13.8 billion dirhams in the first eight months of the year, representing a 6.2 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025.

Regarding energy security, Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development Leila Benali confirmed that Morocco maintains petroleum reserves, including diesel and butane gas, sufficient to cover between 40 and 60 days of national consumption. Authorities assured that the national market will remain regularly supplied with energy, agricultural products, and basic materials through the end of the year, despite geopolitical tensions in the Middle East affecting global supply chains.
