Morocco expands maritime infrastructure through 2030 strategy
Morocco is undergoing a structural transformation in its maritime sector, driven by the National Port Strategy for 2030 and the National Strategy for Developing Logistical Competitiveness. These initiatives, which began implementation in 2010, aim to modernize and expand commercial, fishing, and tourism ports, while also developing ship maintenance and manufacturing capabilities.
The Tanger Med port has achieved significant international recognition, ranking fifth globally among 405 container ports in the 2024 Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) released by the World Bank and S&P Global. Additionally, Morocco has topped the African Manufacturing Index for 2025 issued by the African Development Bank, surpassing South Africa.
As part of this expansion, Morocco aims to move from processing approximately 263 million tons in 2025 to over 300 million tons by 2030. Key hubs in this network include the Port of Casablanca, which serves as a primary artery for import and export, and the Port of Agadir, which functions as a vital Atlantic pole for agricultural and maritime exports.
