Morocco faces heat wave with high temperatures and storm warnings

Morocco's Directorate of Meteorology has issued a heat‑wave warning for several regions, including the east, southeast, the southern interior and the western Atlas plains. Temperatures are expected to exceed seasonal averages, reaching 30 °C in some areas, while night lows remain unusually warm.

The agency cautioned that prolonged exposure to intense sun could pose health risks, especially for children, the elderly and those with chronic illnesses. Recommended measures include drinking plenty of water, avoiding strenuous outdoor activities during peak hours, wearing light clothing and using sun protection.

In addition to the heat, meteorologists forecast unstable cloud cover that may produce scattered thunderstorms, strong winds and localized dust gusts, particularly over the Mid‑Atlas and coastal zones. Residents in these areas are advised to stay clear of valleys and slopes to reduce the danger of sudden flash floods.
