Morocco faces low voter turnout and calls for gender equality reforms
Following the 2026 Moroccan legislative elections, voter turnout was recorded at approximately 38.02% of the 15,801,162 registered voters. This resulted in a non-participation rate of nearly 62%, highlighting concerns regarding public trust in political parties and the gap between electoral promises and lived realities.
In response to the new legislative term and the appointment of Fatima Zahra Mansouri to form the new government, the Democratic Association of Moroccan Women has called for the establishment of a permanent committee within the House of Representatives. This proposed committee would focus on equality and the fight against violence and discrimination. The association aims for the committee to review legislation and monitor public policies to ensure they align with national and international commitments to women's rights and gender equality.
