Morocco faces orange‑alert heat wave and thunderstorms across multiple regions

The Moroccan Directorate of Meteorology issued an orange‑level alert warning of a heat wave accompanied by thunderstorms, hail and strong wind gusts from Saturday through Wednesday. Temperatures are expected to reach 38‑40 °C in many areas on Sunday, climbing to 40‑44 °C in the Zagora, Tata and surrounding provinces, with some locations forecast to hit 42‑45 °C later in the week.

The alert covers a wide swath of the country, including Marrakech, Beni Mellal, Fquih Ben Salah, Khouribga, Ouarzazate, Safi, Fes, Meknes, Agadir and numerous other provinces. Rainfall of 20‑30 mm with hail and wind gusts is anticipated, especially over regions such as Khénifra, Ifrane, Jerada, Boulmane and Midelt on Saturday night, extending into Sunday afternoon.

The meteorological service advises residents to take precautions against extreme heat and sudden storms, emphasizing the potential for hazardous conditions during the forecast period.
