Morocco fishing landings decline at Safi and M'diq ports

Data from the National Fisheries Office reveals a decline in coastal and traditional fishing landings at the ports of Safi and M'diq through July 2026 compared to the previous year.

At Safi Port, landings reached 19,358 tons, a 34 percent decrease, while the commercial value dropped by 40 percent to 131.78 million dirhams. While surface fish landings fell by 34 percent, white fish landings saw a 10 percent increase.

M'diq Port reported a 27 percent decrease in landings, totaling 1,156 tons, with a 23 percent drop in market value to 47.23 million dirhams. Similar to Safi, white fish landings in M'diq rose by 6 percent despite declines in other categories.

On a national level in Morocco, total coastal and traditional fishing products landed reached 551,547 tons, representing a 5 percent increase compared to the same period last year. The total value of these landings rose by 2 percent, exceeding 6.28 billion dirhams.
