Morocco Gains Upper Hand in 2030 World Cup Host Bid

Morocco is emerging as the frontrunner to host the final of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, a bid that would involve an unprecedented joint organization by six nations and feature an expanded field of 64 teams. Spanish football officials, including La Liga chief Javier Tebas, have openly criticised FIFA and called for the resignation of its president, arguing that the organisation is jeopardising the sport. The United States, under former President Donald Trump, has voiced strong criticism of Spain’s bid while simultaneously strengthening ties with Morocco.

In June, Trump lifted US tariffs on Moroccan phosphate imports, a move that directly finances Morocco’s massive stadium and infrastructure programme for the tournament. Morocco’s strategic partnership with the United States is further reinforced by its role as a founding member of the “Council of Peace,” contributing troops and medical facilities to Gaza, which adds diplomatic weight to its World Cup ambitions.
