Ghana cancels friendly match against Morocco in Tangier
The international friendly match between Morocco and Ghana, scheduled for Sunday, October 4, at the Grand Stade de Tanger, has been officially cancelled. Henry Asante Twum, communications director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), confirmed the decision and stated that the GFA had informed the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) of the cancellation.
While the GFA did not officially disclose the reason for withdrawing, media reports suggest the cancellation stems from an internal financial dispute. Reports indicate that Ghanaian players are owed outstanding bonuses and entitlements, including payments related to the 2026 World Cup qualifying process, leading to a refusal by some players to travel to Morocco.
The FRMF is reportedly seeking an alternative opponent to ensure the Moroccan national team’s preparation schedule remains intact. This follows a period of recent instability for the Black Stars, including a 4-2 defeat against Gambia.
