Morocco national football team friendly match scheduling

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has faced difficulties in organizing high-profile friendly matches for the national team. In mid-September, the federation failed to secure a match against Argentina after the Argentine Football Association declined a $1 million proposal to host the game in Rabat, citing a preference for playing on Argentine soil.

By late September, a scheduled friendly against Ghana in Tangier faced potential cancellation due to a financial crisis within the Ghanaian national team. Reports suggested Ghanaian players were demanding unpaid bonuses from their federation. In response to this uncertainty, the FRMF began negotiations with Mali and Cape Verde to secure alternative opponents.

On September 29, the match scheduled for October 4 at the Grand Stade de Tanger was officially cancelled. Henry Asante Twum, communications director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), confirmed the decision and stated that the GFA had informed the FRMF. While the GFA did not officially disclose a reason, media reports indicate the withdrawal stems from internal financial disputes, specifically regarding outstanding bonuses and entitlements related to the 2026 World Cup qualifying process. This dispute has reportedly led to some players refusing to travel to Morocco. The FRMF is currently seeking an alternative opponent to maintain the national team’s preparation schedule.
