Global industrial and energy prices see upward trends in August and September
In Morocco, industrial production prices for manufacturing industries (excluding oil refining) rose by 0.4% in August 2026, according to the Haut-Commissariat au Plan. This increase was driven primarily by the metallurgy and chemical sectors, which saw rises of 1.5% and 1.4% respectively. Other sectors like electrical equipment and food industries saw modest increases, while the clothing industry experienced a 0.7% decline.
In Algeria, Sonatrach has significantly increased its official selling prices for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for October 2026. Propane prices rose by $110 per tonne to $670, while butane prices increased by $140 per tonne to $750. This adjustment, occurring alongside similar price hikes by Saudi Aramco, is attributed to rising global energy costs and increased demand. These prices serve as key benchmarks for Mediterranean and Black Sea markets.
In the Netherlands, industrial sale prices rose 6.8% in August 2025 compared to the previous year, with the chemical industry seeing a 14.1% increase. Additionally, Dutch inflation rose to 3.4% in September 2026, driven largely by a 13.9% surge in energy and motor fuel costs, despite a slight decrease in food prices.
