Morocco Justice Minister announces judicial reforms and court expansions

Morocco's Minister of Justice, Abdellatif Ouahbi, has announced plans to overhaul commercial legislation and expand the judicial infrastructure to address delays in the legal system. Speaking at the House of Councillors, Ouahbi noted that current laws and complex procedures contribute to slow case resolutions. To alleviate pressure on existing courts, new commercial law departments and courts are planned for Oujda, Rabat, and Laâyoune.

The Minister also highlighted the success of alternative dispute resolution methods, such as reconciliation, which have settled approximately 40,000 cases since their implementation last year. These procedures have reportedly contributed 30 million dirhams to the national treasury through collected fines. Ouahbi intends to present new legislative proposals regarding commercial codes and obligations in 2027 following consultations with various stakeholders, including employers and legal institutions.
