Morocco launches national breastfeeding promotion campaign

The Moroccan Ministry of Health and Social Protection, in partnership with the National Initiative for Human Development, has launched the 16th edition of its national campaign to encourage breastfeeding. Running from October 20 to November 20, the campaign operates under the slogan “Exclusive breastfeeding in the first six months is enough.”

The initiative is part of a national strategy for social and behavioral change aimed at improving maternal and child health during the first 1,000 days of a child's life. It emphasizes the physical, cognitive, and emotional benefits of breastfeeding and its role in preventing malnutrition and chronic diseases.

Aligned with World Health Organization recommendations, the campaign promotes starting breastfeeding within the first hour of birth and maintaining exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months. The program includes awareness activities for mothers and the community, involving health professionals and local media, while supporting the “Baby-Friendly Hospitals” initiative and adhering to international codes regarding the marketing of breast milk substitutes.
