Morocco prepares for 2026 legislative elections

Morocco is entering a critical phase of its 2026 legislative election cycle. The Ministry of the Interior has set strict deadlines for candidate registration for the House of Representatives elections scheduled for September 23, 2026. The process involves a mandatory two-step procedure: an electronic declaration via a dedicated platform, which must be completed by noon on September 8, followed by the physical submission of original files to relevant authorities by noon on September 9.

Following the closure of nominations, the official election campaign is set to run from September 10 until midnight on September 22.

Political activity is already intensifying. Approximately 15 members of the current government have decided to run for parliamentary seats, including high-profile figures such as Fatima-Zahra El Mansouri and Nizar Baraka. Conversely, several ministers, including the Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah, have opted not to seek reelection. In a notable strategic move, Mohamed Nabil Benabdallah, Secretary-General of the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS), has announced he will not run for a seat, choosing instead to focus entirely on leading the party's national campaign.
