Morocco Public Prosecution reports 403 complaints for 2026 elections

Morocco's Presidency of the Public Prosecution reported that the September 23, 2026, elections were conducted normally and effectively. Mourad Alami, head of the Public Prosecution's division for criminal policy and crime analysis, noted a significant decrease in electoral complaints, with 403 cases recorded compared to 1,071 in the 2021 elections.

Complaints were submitted both in person and through digital applications developed by the Presidency. Most violations involved public law crimes committed during campaigns, such as violence, insults, and privacy violations. There was a noted increase in crimes committed via social media, specifically regarding defamation and breaches of privacy, which led to judicial investigations and prosecutions.

Regarding the failure to deliver copies of minutes to candidate representatives, only four complaints were filed in the districts of Guelmim, Fahs Anjra, and Souk Ahrach El Gharb. Two of these cases were dismissed due to lack of evidence, while two remain under investigation.
