Morocco ranks 47th in 2026 Global Hunger Index

Morocco has ranked 47th out of 122 countries in the 2026 Global Hunger Index, maintaining a classification of low hunger levels. However, the country's score has risen from 8.2 points in 2018 to 9 points, indicating a relative decline in progress.

Data reveals persistent nutritional vulnerabilities, with 6.5 percent of the population suffering from undernutrition and a stunting rate of 13.7 percent among children under five. While Morocco successfully exports high-value agricultural products such as tomatoes, citrus fruits, and berries, it remains heavily dependent on imports for essential grains.

This food security challenge is compounded by high energy dependency, with 87.5 percent of the country's energy needs met through imports. These factors, alongside water scarcity and climate change, increase the risk of rising production and transport costs, which can directly impact domestic food prices and consumer purchasing power.
