Morocco ranks 76th globally in 2026 Legatum Prosperity Index

Morocco has ranked 76th globally out of 161 countries in the 2026 Legatum Prosperity Index. This placement makes Morocco the second-highest ranked nation in North Africa, trailing only Tunisia, which secured 75th place. Morocco outperformed other regional nations, including Algeria (83rd), Libya (115th), Egypt (120th), and Sudan (152nd).

The index utilizes a revised methodology focusing on three core pillars: development, freedom, and society, drawing from over 150 indicators. Morocco demonstrated significant strength in economic freedom, ranking 54th globally, and in family cohesion and integrity, where it placed 36th. However, the country faced challenges in education, ranking 122nd.

Other social metrics for Morocco included 56th in societal integrity, 75th in state integrity, and 94th in local community cohesion. Globally, Switzerland topped the index, followed by Norway and Ireland. The 2026 edition marks the first methodological update since 2023, employing new statistical techniques to prevent high performance in one area from masking weaknesses in another.
