Morocco Secures Major Renewable Energy Funding and Highway Project Contracts

Morocco has emerged as a leading recipient of international financing for renewable energy projects, ranking among the world's top ten. According to the 2026 Energy Progress Report, the country attracted $6.6 billion in renewable energy funding between 2010 and 2024, placing it tenth globally and third in Africa. In 2024, new commitments rose to $3.7 billion, with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the World Bank delivering record investments, mainly for solar and wind capacity.

At the same time, French engineering firm GEA announced the signing of a contract to equip the Guercif‑Nador highway in Morocco with tolling and traffic‑management systems. The deal is part of GEA’s 2025‑2026 semi‑annual results, which reported €61.7 million in firm orders, 69 % of which are abroad. The Moroccan project adds to GEA’s portfolio that also includes work in Poland, Greece and Central Asia, and highlights the country’s growing role in the company’s export activity.
