Morocco sees rise in remittances and foreign investment
According to data from the Office des Changes, Morocco saw significant growth in key financial inflows during the first eight months of 2026. Remittances from Moroccans living abroad reached approximately 89.215 billion dirhams, representing a 9 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025.
Travel revenues also showed upward momentum, totaling 97.926 billion dirhams, a 9.7 percent rise. This growth in income outpaced the increase in travel expenditures, resulting in a travel balance surplus of 74.621 billion dirhams, up 10.8 percent year-on-year.
Foreign direct investment (FDI) saw a substantial surge, with net inflows rising 65 percent to reach 34.334 billion dirhams. This was driven by a 17 percent increase in FDI income alongside a 33.9 percent decrease in related expenditures. Conversely, net Moroccan direct investment abroad rose to 6.667 billion dirhams. Despite these positive inflows, the goods trade deficit increased by 25.4 percent as import growth exceeded export growth.
