Morocco's 2024 regional wealth and growth concentrated in three regions

Regional accounts released by Morocco's High Commission for Planning show that three regions – Casablanca‑Settat, Rabat‑Salé‑Kénitra and Tanger‑Tétouan‑Al Hoceima – together generated 58.4 % of the national GDP in 2024 (Casablanca‑Settat 32.3 %, Rabat‑Salé‑Kénitra 15.5 %, Tanger‑Tétouan‑Al Hoceima 10.7 %). The same three regions accounted for 25.3 %, 14.8 % and 11.6 % respectively of total household consumption, representing 74.4 % of all final consumption spending.

Eight regions posted GDP growth above the national 4.4 % rate: Laâyoune‑Sakia El Hamra (7.6 %), Dakhla‑Oued Eddahab (7.0 %), Souss‑Massa (6.8 %), Drâa‑Tafilalet (6.2 %), L’Oriental (5.9 %), Marrakech‑Safi (5.1 %), Tanger‑Tétouan‑Al Hoceima (4.9 %) and Guelmim‑Oued Noun (4.6 %). By contrast, Casablanca‑Settat grew 4.3 % and Rabat‑Salé‑Kénitra 3.5 %. Per‑capita consumption averaged 25,664 dirhams, with the highest levels in Dakhla‑Oued Eddahab (34,515 dirhams) and Casablanca‑Settat (31,173 dirhams). The absolute disparity between regions widened, with the average regional GDP gap rising from 83.6 billion dirhams in 2023 to 90.9 billion in 2024, and the consumption gap increasing from 48.5 billion to 51.5 billion dirhams.
