Morocco surpasses Spain in EU tomato sales with revenues exceeding €1 billion

Morocco has overtaken Spain in tomato sales volume within the European Union for the second consecutive season. According to data from the 2025-2026 agricultural season, Morocco exported approximately 493.33 million kilograms of tomatoes to the EU, compared to 475.8 million kilograms from Spain. While the Netherlands remains the leading supplier with 773.45 million kilograms, Morocco has secured the second position.

In terms of financial performance, Moroccan tomato sales generated approximately €1.03 billion in revenue within the EU, surpassing Spain’s €1.017 billion. This growth reflects a 22.17% increase in Moroccan sales compared to the 2016-2017 season, whereas Spanish sales declined by 37% during the same period. Although the average selling price for Moroccan tomatoes was €2.09 per kilogram—slightly lower than Spain’s €2.14—the higher volume allowed Morocco to achieve greater total revenue.
