Morocco traffic accidents kill 26, injure 213 in first half of July

In the first half of July, traffic accidents across Morocco's liberated regions resulted in 26 deaths and 213 injuries, including 78 serious injuries. Authorities recorded 216 separate incidents: 119 vehicle collisions, 66 pedestrian run‑overs, 24 vehicle roll‑overs, six impacts with fixed objects and one fall from a vehicle.

Police identified 8,864 traffic violations during the same period, ranging from speed limit breaches to dangerous overtaking, wrong‑way travel, overloaded loads, driver fatigue, poor vehicle maintenance and deteriorated road conditions. Motorcycles were highlighted as a major contributor, alongside illegal driving by minors and pedestrians ignoring safe crossing rules. The material damage from the accidents was estimated at roughly 82 million Moroccan riyals.
